Cala d'Or is a very popular resort with UK and Irish tourists, and has a great deal to offer. Cala d'Or is a well established location on the south east coast of Mallorca island which has largely avoided the excesses of large scale tourism development. Originally named Cala d'Hort after one of the loveliest beaches in Ibiza, the local accent has gradually transformed the name into Cala d' Or. There are seven beaches within Cala D'or, however it has been known to get very busy at times. The resort still has a slight feel of being a fishing village as there are no high rise buildings, and it is not too built up. The sea is perfectly safe to swim in, with shallow waters making it perfect for children. The resort was established around a series of the sandy coves that are typical of the coastline in this part of Mallorca including the small sandy beach at Cala Egos and Cala Gran, the main beach which is in Cala d'Or centre. The beautiful marina at Cala d'Or is the ideal starting point for yacht charters in Mallorca, for a unique and unforgettable view of the coastline. Golfing holidays are also catered for with the Vall d'Or Golf club just a few klm away from Cala d'Ort. The surrounding rolling countryside in this area makes it great for cycling holidays.
